Yoga Chikitsa and body healing

Lately I've been sniveling a lot about my injuries and various pains, even though I do not like that attitude at all. I need a mind reset to get back on track.

When I started practicing Ashtanga, hidden pain from a few old injuries (one of them dating back to more than 30 years) came back to the surface in a more or less acute way.

At first, I thought: Okay, I’ll stop doing my practice until my body is back to normal. I asked my teacher for advice, and the answer I got was kind of daunting: no way, you need to endure practicing and work your way through it in order to heal your body.

The teacher was right, of course.

Looking back, everything is clearer now: passively waiting and hoping for our bodies to heal by themselves is like waiting for someone else to do things.

If we only do our practice when we feel good or when it suits us, we won’t get any results. In addition, our approach to Ashtanga will only be that of an amusement, a pastime.

Commitment and self-discipline ("tapas") are always key factors: by practicing five to six days a week, we will acquire the habit of mind and consciousness we need to endure that uncomfortable healing period - and future periods of discomfort.

So, don’t be such a crybaby and press down to sit more on your hips while doing Warrior II 😉
