Ethics relativism and moral foundamentalism (in yoga as well)
I am trying to keep this post as generic - or less specific - as possible but it can definitely relate to the yoga community.
I
think that ethics should be flexible and adapt to the environment,
adjust to different cultures and ways of life. We can't expect to apply
the same parameters and impose the same etchics rules and standards of
conduct to different realities and "worlds".
Right or wrong (as much as I don't like those words) are culturally dependent and affect cultural identity.
We
can't transfer a whole package or set of norms from one community to
another without raising hackles among members of the recipient part.
A
few basic rules may be more or less easily exported and accepted
everywhere, but no more than that. We are not all equal, and we are
treading on different and delicate grounds where ethics and morality are
still uncharted territories.
